How to Dispute a Questionable Item on Your Credit Report, Placed there by RDK Collects Collection Agency
RDK is a commercial and consumer 3rd party debt collection agency based in Troy, Michigan where it has been in business since 1992. RDK says that they are equipped to handle claims “from the very first collection call to coordination of a lawsuit.”
In additional to commercial and consumer accounts, their specialties also include NSF checks, credit card portfolios, medical collection, automotive industry collections, and property management claims. They coordinate with a network of attorneys throughout the country specializing in debt collection.
As an independent third-party collection agency, RDK Collection Services employs the use of “impact letters,” phone calls, and skip tracing. They also state they are able to quickly “impact” debtors’ credit history, which is a real cause for worry if this is done before you have even had a chance to address the debt or arrange a settlement.
If you find that there is a questionable item on your credit report such as a charge off or collection item from RDK Collection Services, you can file a credit bureau dispute and have the questionable item removed from your credit report.
There are two parties responsible for correcting inaccurate information on your credit report, including questionable collection items. These are the consumer reporting company (the credit bureau) and the information provider (the creditor or collection agency). This means that you have to contact both to have a questionable collection item removed from your credit report. You’ll need to handle this in writing, mailing a letter describing the collection item and why you think it’s inaccurate and should be removed.
Be sure to provide copies (NOT originals) of any documents that support your claim, such as cancelled checks, settlement agreements, receipts of payments, etc.
It helps to include a copy of your credit report with the items in question circled and, of course, send this information by certified mail, return receipt requested. Make certain to keep copies of everything you’ve sent.
Consumer reporting companies are obligated to investigate the questionable items within 30 days, reviewing the information and reporting the relevant data to the organization that provided the information. The information provider must subsequently review the same information, and report the result of its investigation back to the consumer reporting agencies. If the collection item you’re disputing turns out to be inaccurate, the information provider must notify all three consumer reporting companies and instruct them to remove the information from your file. When this process is complete, you’ll receive the results of the investigation in writing and a free copy of your credit report showing any changes that have been made.
RDK Collections Services may not be very helpful when it comes to your dispute over an entry on your credit report – after all, they put it there – but you do have the right to have any inaccurate/questionable information removed.
